~~~~ On the 26th July 2021 my world changed forever ~~~~
Mum after a brief 22 day stay in Addenbrookes sadly passed away with me and my sister Donna by her side.
Mum who was awaiting a hip operation for a few years had started to deteriorate, her mobility was poor, and I know she was mentally tired of waiting for the call. She started to lose interest in food and had a new stomach cyst added to her list. Cancer markers in her blood were elevated but we were told that this wasn’t too much of a concern.
Fast forward a few weeks, we grew too concerned not to call an ambulance. After various tests in hospital, it was found that Mum had several lumps on her liver, lymph nodes near her heart too. She knew in herself it was her time as she started to let me know her funeral music requests. After antibiotics were withdrawn, and feeding tubes taken away as she’d requested, she was moved into a side room. Mum then started the slowly increased dosage of morphine as and when allowed. This was to become her room for the rest of her stay. We’d thought about getting her home as this is what she wanted but after one bad Saturday night /Sunday morning we realised it was not possible, and we cancelled the hospital bed delivery.
Both my Sister and I ended up visiting Mum early Monday morning (Ward C4). This was unplanned by us but Mum knew we were there as she in her own way was able to communicate to us. With both of us holding one of her hands each, all of a sudden, she started to take her lasts breath’s, and passed away peacefully a few minutes later.
I’ve always run for charity, and chosen good causes that are personal to me so please help me raise funds in Mum’s memory to Addenbrookes Charitable Trust.
Thanks J
